When out on the bike, some of the most visible and readily accessible plants for foraging are there at the roadside. I’ve often wondered if proximity to the pollution from cars has a particularly adverse affect, and have preferred to pick stuff away from the roadside except on the quietest of roads. Turns out, the affect isn’t as much as you would expect – some scientists have been studying exactly this, and so far the conclusion is that roots and leafy greens are affected most, with berries and nuts the least affected.
